“Eternity’s Encouragement”

I penned this poem some years ago when I was overseas and struggling with discouragement as I realized how much time I was missing with my dear friends back in the States. Time and again Jesus’ eternal perspective has given me comfort and encouragement when I’ve fallen into thinking shortsightedly. If we are in Christ, then we will live forever with God and our forever family in Him. Recalling this reality is vital for our perseverance in the faith.

Weeks go by so quickly that I’m tempted to despair,

But thanks be to the Lord; I have eternity to share

With Him and all my brothers and my sisters I now miss.

There’s comfort in rememb’ring that forever we’ll exist.

O Time, how miserable I’d be if you were all I had!

I’d grasp you, but you’d slip away, and so would I; how sad.

But Jesus saved me from Time’s curse and fleeting accolades.

In Him, I’ve an inheritance that never flees nor fades.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Mike
