In Southern Baptist History stands a great preacher whose name was R.G. Lee. He was the Pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis Tenn. from 1927-1960. He is most famous for preaching a sermon called “Payday Someday.” Pastor R.G. Lee preached this one sermon over 1200 times in his ministry reaching the ears of over 8 million people and resulting in over 8000 confessions of faith according to R.G. Lee himself.
The sermon focused on King Ahab and Jezebel wickedly taking the life of Naboth and his entire family to gain Naboth’s vineyard (1Kings 21). It is a lesson that for every one of us there is coming a “payday someday!” Pastor Lee ends his sermon with this quote: “And the only way I know for any man or woman on earth to escape the sinner’s payday on earth and the sinner’s hell beyond is making sure of the Christian’s payday on earth and the Christian’s heaven beyond the Christian’s payday is through Christ Jesus, who took the sinner’s place upon the Cross, becoming for all sinners all that God must judge, that sinners through faith in Christ Jesus might become all that God cannot judge.”
Dear church it is clear by the sermon I preach today and what Pastor Lee preached so many years ago that there is for sure by the authority of scripture a Payday coming someday! On that day you must be prepared to meet God through faith in Jesus Christ on the cross for your sins. I beseech you all if you have not yet been reconciled to Christ be reconciled with Him today! Pastor Mark
