On July 2, 1776, Congress voted to dissolve the connection between “this country” and GreatBritain, declaring the “United Colonies of North America” to be free and independent states.Congress ratified the text of the Declaration on July 4, and it reached the King of England sixmonths later.
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by
their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit
of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their
just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government
becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to
institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in
such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
Dear church, 247 years ago our nation, the United States of America was born! It was born out
of freedom and liberty and a nation under God. It is our duty to remain faithful to our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ as Christian citizens of this great nation. To hold these truths that God
would bless our nation if we would not forget Him and His grace, he has shed on us. “The
wicked shall be turned into hell, and all nations that forget God.” (Ps. 9:17) May God continue
