John Stott wrote in his book “The Contemporary Christian” that not long before she died in 1988, in a moment of surprising candor in television, Marghanita Laski, one of our best-known secular humanists and novelists, said, “What I envy most about you Christians is your forgiveness; I have nobody to forgive me.”
Dear church member, this greatest gift that has been given us is Jesus Himself and with Him comes the cure for our greatest need and that is the forgiveness of our sins. The world envies such a blessing because they know that to get it requires a confession of sin that terrifies the hearts of men, a surrender of a life that offends men and turning from sin that astonishes men. If you have forgiveness you are so blessed today, flee to Jesus if you do not have Him, confess, surrender and be astonished that you have the power to love God and hate sin.
