Review Your Vows

HUSBAND

I, ___________, take thee, ___________, to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part.  This is my solemn vow.

WIFE

I, ___________, take thee, _________, to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part.  This is my solemn vow.

It is a “good practice” to review your vows as husband and wife and evaluate how you are doing concerning the promises you made to each other.  Notice our vows challenge us more about circumstances in life than promises.  We as sinners often change our minds when our circumstances change for the worse or the better.  And in our vows, we recognize that life is going to be changing all the time.  Some days are better than others! Sometimes we have more money than the next.  Sometimes we are in better health than other days.  However, from the day your married until your death we promise, no matter the circumstance we will hold and have each other and love and cherish each other!  Place your name in these blanks as they appear above and ask the Lord to keep you striving for this kind of marriage.  If you are single read them carefully and solemnly and consider when dating a person if you can by God’s help love someone no matter the circumstances of life until death parts you!

I often say that “our church is only as strong as our marriages” because the Bible often parallels the church with marriage (Eph. Chapter 5).  The strength and faithfulness of your marriage has a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of not only your family but the family of God.  That is why the first covenant the Lord made in the garden of Eden was marriage.   May the Lord encourage you to fulfill your marriage vows and bless your family and church no matter the circumstances now and for eternity.  Pastor Mark
