Have you ever been humbled by what someone else said about you? It happened to me with my brother Marvin who was selected to go to the 6-week FBI academy from Elko County Sheriff’s Office in Quantico Virginia. This is a very coveted opportunity for any leader in Law Enforcement. However, when he went, so did one of our Deputy Chiefs from the Reno Police Department and my brother met my chief at Quantico Virginia. He told the chief that he was my brother. My chief said “so you are Mark’s brother, well Mark he is like this. If we were to go to battle as an organization, Mark is our flag bearer.” What the chief meant was that I was a good representation of our department and thus would be allowed to carry the colors of our organization. When my brother told me that it humbled me. Because I found out what my supervisor thought of me when I was not with him.
In today’s sermon Peter is asked who he thinks Jesus is. What a great question for all of us. It was the ultimate “pop quiz” for the disciples because the person asking was Jesus Himself! And at this moment Peter shines so brightly, and it is at this point Peter becomes the “flag bearer” of the Christian Army when he says, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Peter gave the exact right answer, and Jesus even told him that it was given to him by divine revelation from God the Father.
What would you say today if you had a pop quiz from non-other than Jesus Himself and He asked you, “who do you say that I am?” What would be your answer? Your answer to that question has more eternal ramifications than any other question in your life. Pray to the Lord today to open your heart to this question that you could be a “flag bearer” for our Lord Jesus Christ in His army! Pastor Mark
